I live in Hong Kong, and recently, I read a chinese newspaper about the TPA Victory in the League of Legends championships. And, surprisingly, Toyz seems regretful. (The original text was in chinese, so I did my best to transalte it to english.)
Toyz: I started gaming (Not league of legends, just gaming) at the age of 10. At first I played for fun, but then eventually it turned into a carreer for me. Everyday, I practiced so much that I was sick of playing, I no longer enjoy the game. When your playing alone at home, you can do whatever you want, but it is different when training for the competitive scene. I regret taking this carreer, and I wish I did not drop out of school to pursue a carreer in gaming.
Why is he so regretful? He won a million dollars!
First off, most of the million dollars didn't go to the team. It would go to the agent that helped organize the event for the team. Then, whatever small amount of remaining money would have to be split amougnst the 6 players of the team. in the end, for all his time, he likely did not earn alot of money.
So, those of you who wish to pursue a career in gaming be warned: The sad reality is, you probably wouldn't earn that much, most of it would go to your agent. You would have to train for a rediculous number of hours, until you are actually sick of the game, and gaming will not feed you for your entire life. As you get older, your reaction times slow, and you become less-and less competitive.
