Dean, College of Public Health; The Ohio State University

The Ohio State University (OSU) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, College of Public Health. The College is one of 47 accredited schools of public health in the United States, and the only one in Ohio. The College has five academic units (Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Health Behavior Health Promotion, and Health Services Management and Policy). In addition, the College contains the following centers: the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Evaluation Studies, the Center for Public Health Practice and the Prevention Research Center. The College is also closely aligned with the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Davis Heart Lung Research Institute, and the Initiative for Population Research. The College is an integral part of the most comprehensive academic health sciences center in the United States, comprised of the Colleges of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Optometry, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine and the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

The College has 37 faculty and 400 students enrolled in programs leading to a BSPH, MS, MPH, MHA and PhD. The College enjoys a close working relationship, as well as close proximity, with the Ohio Department of Health and Columbus Public Health. Responsibilities include overseeing the academic, fiscal, administrative and personnel matters within the College and providing leadership in fostering excellence in teaching, research and service. The Dean serves as the chief spokesperson, representing the College to external agencies, and actively participating in College development and advancement activities. The university is interested in attracting candidates for this position who can build on the successes in place at the College, and lead the College to national and international prominence in research, education and community outreach. The Dean should articulate a clear and innovative vision for the College and for public health generally, including how to build upon current College success as a nexus for public health research and education across OSU.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess a doctorate in public health or a related discipline; are eligible for appointment as a tenured professor; can provide evidence of excellence and impact in research and scholarship; strong track record of extramural research funding and have demonstrated success in one or more areas of public health and academic administration. Desired qualifications include a participatory management style, experience in fund raising, knowledge of fiscal management and strategic planning, strong interpersonal skills to promote institutional strengths within the College, the university, and the community, and the ability to nurture collaborative relationships with potential partners nationally and internationally.
